It was a full house at the 2019 Pharmacy Forum in November, as pharmacy leaders and innovators shared their vision for the future of pharmacy and how to overcome barriers for change.
A panel discussion started the day off by focussing on the challenges and opportunities of specialty pharmaceuticals, which represent just 1% of prescriptions but 29% of expenditures (and growing). Attendees heard initial results on the Prescription to Thrive project in Nova Scotia, which is piloting a model for change management in pharmacy practice, and learned the advantages of an appointment-based model of practice, based on an analysis of its implentation in pharmacies in Ontario. Pharmacy leaders in Quebec also presented on the changing landscape for pharmacists' services and reimbursement in that provinces, which could serve as a roadmap for other provinces.
