Late last year, the Canadian Foundation for Pharmacy (CFP) surveyed pharmacy stakeholders to help set short- and long-term research priorities to address gaps in Canada’s healthcare system.
Over 90 people responded, signaling just how invested the pharmacy community is in evidence-driven progress.
The survey, designed to capture priorities from across the profession, invited participants to weigh in on areas where research could make the biggest difference — from expanding pharmacists’ clinical roles and improving patient outcomes, to the impact of new technologies and workforce wellbeing.
In the short and long term, most respondents agreed that research exploring how pharmacists can practise to the top of their scope—and the impact of that care on health outcomes and costs—should be a priority. Another key focus area in the next one to two years was the impact of technologies in pharmacy (including AI), while business sustainability and funding was a bigger priority in the next three to five years.
Thank you to everyone who participated — your insights will inform CFP’s funding focus in the years ahead, helping ensure that investments support research that matters most to Canadian pharmacies and the patients they serve.
