Celebrating our 2019 Pillar of Pharmacy, Sherry Peister

NOVEMBER 2019 – Colleagues and friends gathered in Toronto in November to celebrate 2019 Pillar of Pharmacy Winner Sherry Peister. The evening was filled with touching tributes to a pharmacist who has clearly gone above and beyond to promote the profession and lead pharmacy into the future.

As the first female chairperson, and youngest ever board member at Green Shield Canada, Peister was lauded for her commitment to social impact. “She is razor smart and has long demonstrated her commitment to community—she’s also kind and supportive and tireless,” said one of the evening’s presenters, Green Shield Canada’s CEO and President Zahid Salman.

Others applauded her ongoing willingness to lead and mentor others. “Sherry is the poster child for what every woman in our profession needs to see,” said Christine Hrudka, current chair of the Canadian Pharmacists Association. “Not only has she been a leader but a visionary…thank you for being brave!”

Beyond pharmacy, Sherry was lauded for “shining a light to the next generation of female leaders,” as a two-time winner of the Women’s Executive Networks’ (WXN) Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award. Noted Sherri Stevens, owner and CEO of WXN: “I’m honoured to have Sherry on this list of prestigous women.”

Peister’s daughter, Carly England, capped off the night with a few anecdotes about her mother’s adventurous spirit—often leading the family to exotic places around the world—as well as her “over-preparedness” for all situations.
