Innovation Fund attracts high-calibre submissions

JUNE 2020 – Despite the disruption of COVID-19, the Canadian Foundation of Pharmacy reports a strong turnout in submissions for grants from its Innovation Fund.

“At a time of significant uncertainty and difficulties, the Innovation Fund review committee was very pleased and thankful to receive a high number of quality submissions for this year’s offering. This speaks volumes to the dedication and talent of pharmacist leaders across the country,” says Dayle Acorn, Executive Director of CFP.

Since 2007 CFP has transformed more than $2 million in individual and corporate donations into research grants, awards, bursaries and scholarships for pharmacy researchers, innovators and leaders across the country. Grants from the Innovation Fund are a core component of CFP’s mandate to support the advancement of pharmacy practice for a healthier Canada.

Up to $100,000 in total funding is available from this year’s Innovation Fund. CFP received 33 applications by the time of the deadline in early June, which had been delayed by a month due to the impact of COVID-19. The review committee and CFP’s Board of Directors are now determining a shortlist of finalists, who will be asked to submit more detailed information about their proposed projects.

As in past years, this year’s applications address the pharmacist’s role and impact across a wide range patient services. Click here to learn more about past recipients.

“We receive many worthy applications but are limited to two or three recipients a year because we don’t have the funds to choose more,” says Acorn, adding that fundraising has been more difficult this year due to the cancellation of events. “The more support we receive from individuals and corporations, the more we can give for ground-breaking research and innovative practice models.”
