The Pharmacists’ Association of the Niagara Peninsula (PANP) is aiming to make in-person continuing education more accessible to community pharmacists in their area. This April 21, the non-profit group will host its first in-person CE program since the pandemic started at what organizers say is a very favorable early bird fee of $60 ($100 standard). “Even when you’re an association member, I realize that some conferences are exorbitantly priced and they don’t need to be,” says PANP Vice-President Nishan Devani, noting that the CE will be open to any pharmacists or pharmacy technicians who want to attend.
“With the stress of being a retail pharmacist coupled with high inflation, over time I’ve noticed a lack of interest in attending events…and keeping up with educational responsibilities has gone by the wayside,” says Devani. In the past, he says it was part of every pharmacy’s repertoire to attend events and network. “I want to bring that back and get more young people, in particular, more involved in the profession.” The full-day, unaccredited event is expected to become a recurring CE offering from PANP. The agenda includes four education sessions focused on allergy, metabolic disease, microbiota intestinal disorders and contraceptive options.
