Three cheers for this year’s Pillar, Gayle Romanetz

Fond memories and optimism for the future of pharmacy contributed to the celebratory atmosphere at the Inn at the Forks in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on October 16.

Pharmacists from across the country gathered to honour Gayle Romanetz, the 2025 recipient of the Canadian Foundation for Pharmacy’s Pillar of Pharmacy Award.

With more than 30 years—and counting—in the profession, Romanetz has consistently led by example, earning her reputation as a trusted leader, skilled strategist, and dedicated advocate for the evolving role of Canadian pharmacists. As a board member, former CEO and now President of Pharmacists Manitoba, she continually champions change to future-proof the profession and broaden the reach of pharmacy services.

Romanetz is currently Vice-President of Operations at Northway Pharmacy in Manitoba, as well as Principal Consultant of Romanetz Consulting. Previously, as Vice President of Operations for Loblaw Companies, she oversaw pharmacy operations and talent development across more than 500 locations nationwide.

In a wide-ranging interview with CFP, Romanetz offered the following piece of advice for new pharmacists: “Stay curious and stay kind to your patients, your colleagues and yourself. Your career may not unfold exactly as you expect, and that’s not failure—it’s growth.”
