Pharmacy textbook support keeps on growing

February 2015 – As the launch of the Pharmacy Management in Canada textbook draws closer (June 2015), support continues to pour in from various aspects of the profession, including associations and industry, as well personal donations from more than 30 individual pharmacists.

McKesson Canada and the Ontario Pharmacists Association are the latest sponsors to come on board with substantial donations, contributing $25,000 and $10,000, respectively. “Our contribution to the textbook reflects the belief of McKesson and our independent pharmacy banners IDA, Guardian, Medicine Shoppe Canada and Proxim that pharmacists are key to enhancing the access and quality of care for Canadians,” says Andrew Parkes, President of Drug Trading. “Our hope is that this textbook can enhance the learning experience and preparedness of the pharmacy graduates as they enter the increasingly important practice of pharmacy.”

Other sponsors to date include: AdhereRx, the Alberta Pharmacists Association, Allied Pharmacists Inc., AstraZeneca, BC Chain Drugs Stores, Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists, Desante Financial, Green Shield Canada, Jones Healthcare, Leo Pharma, Lovell Drugs, Manitoba Society of Pharmacists, Pharmasave Drugs (National) Ltd., Pharmascience, Remedy’s RxSafeway Pharmacy, Shoppers Drug Mart, Shoppers Drug Mart National Associates Alumni, Teva and Turner Drug Store Ltd.

“To see this kind of support coming in from throughout the profession is very encouraging because it shows us that people believe this textbook is necessary,” says Dayle Acorn, Executive Director of the Canadian Foundation for Pharmacy (CFP), which is spearheading the initiative.

BC Pharmacy Association Director of Pharmacy Practice Support, Derek Desrosiers, agrees. “I really expect this textbook’s appeal will be two-fold as it will be useful for those already in management, as well as pharmacy students and academics,” he says.
