Canada’s inaugural SHARP Symposium on June 20 is packed with actionable research findings in primary care and the patient experience. The Symposium will take place at the Brock Niagara Falls Fallsview Hotel in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
The Strengthening Health with Research in Pharmacy (SHARP) Symposium will showcase recent Canadian research and explore how these projects can inform policy decisions. The plenary and oral presentations are supplemented by panel discussions, conversation tables, poster sessions and networking breaks. Among the oral presentations:
- Community pharmacy-based testing and treatment for chlamydia and gonorrhea (Swab-Rx Study, Nova Scotia Health)
- Evaluation of the Pharmacist Care Clinic Pilot in New Brunswick (University of New Brunswick)
- Initial uptake or minor-ailment services and community pharmacy characteristics in Ontario (University of Toronto)
- Screening for poverty and related social determinants of health by community pharmacists (SPARK project, Memorial University of Newfoundland)
- Building pharmacy services in a remote Indigenous community (We are medicine for each other, University of British Columbia)

The Symposium is co-hosted by the Canadian Foundation for Pharmacy (CFP), the Association of Faculties of Pharmacy of Canada (AFPC) and the Ontario Pharmacy Evidence Network (OPEN). It is an exciting addition to the AFPC’s annual Canadian Education and Research Conference (CPERC) that starts on June 17. SHARP Symposium-only attendees do not need to register for CPERC. The registration fee for the Symposium only is $400, or $200 for pharmacy students.
